Harrowing images of blood-soaked children went viral on social media platforms as a recent airstrike by Russia killed 18 people including children.
According to the government of Ukraine, a Russian airstrike on an urban apartment building killed 18 people including 2 children.
The images were harrowing, to say the least. The distressing images of children soaked in blood as people continue to flee from the country.
The Ukrainian government also accused the Russian forces of violation of the ceasefire as they attacked the evacuation route being pursued by millions of Ukrainian to leave the war-torn country.
The recent Russian airstrike took place in the city of Sumy.
The government of Ukraine stated “Last night Russian pilots committed another crime against humanity in Sumy. They dropped 500-kilogram bombs on residential buildings. Rescuers are still removing the debris, but 18 civilian deaths have already been confirmed, including two children,” the government wrote, with the emojis of a candle and prayer.
The government also revealed that another city, Okhtyrka, was brutally attacked by Russian aircrafts.
“The enemy intensifies the bombardment of urban areas, destroying and damaging residential buildings,” the government shared, saying enemy troops were targeting civilians “to bombard cities into submission.”
This bloodshed episode came when the majority of the Ukrainians were boarding buses to flee the eastern city of Sumy. This was supposedly the first official evacuation from a city of Ukraine through a “humanitarian corridor” which was mutually agreed upon by both countries.
Another city of Irpin was brutally bombarded on Sunday when women, children, and men were leaving the frontline Kyiv suburb as the war striking intensified from the Russian end.
Mariupol is one of the most devastated cities of Ukraine with a population of 430,000. Almost half of the city is hoping to flee to safe havens as the city becomes a site of demolishment and ashes.
The foreign ministry of Ukraine has reportedly accused Russia of violating the ceasefire as well as striking at the safe-havens.
“Ceasefire violated! Russian forces are now shelling the humanitarian corridor from Zaporizhzhia to Mariupol,” the foreign department stated.
“Pressure on Russia MUST step up to make it uphold its commitments,” the ministry tweeted.
The war which has entered its 2nd week might give birth to a possible refugee crisis in Europe as millions of people are fleeing Ukraine.
According to the United Nations, evacuations at such a fast pace will lead to unprecedented refugee problems and crises in Europe since World War II.
“Today the outflow of refugees from Ukraine reaches two million people. Two million,” Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, wrote on Twitter.
The Ukrainian president continues to vow to fight till his last breath. He says that Russia will meet with insurgency even though it has a clear advantage against Ukraine but even if the Russian forces enter the houses of the citizens of Ukraine, they will be met with the insurgency.
