US President Donald Trump and Dr. Anthony Fauci do not seem to be getting along very well during the pandemic. As the COVID-19 situation worsens in the US, President Trump took it to twitter to demand Dr. Fauci’s firing.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is one of the leading immunologists and physicians in the US. A few weeks earlier, Dr. Fauci implied that it costs thousands of lives by delaying important decisions during the pandemic.

The leading infectious diseases expert confirmed details of a report which blamed the Trump administration for a poor strategy during the pandemic, delaying important decisions and underestimating the coronavirus threat. It is also important to note that Dr. Fauci and Mr. Trump have had quite conflicting views about the coronavirus and how to mitigate its impact in the US.

When asked about why the government failed to implement social distancing measures earlier in February despite being advised to do so by several health officials, Dr. Fauci said that they look at the entire situation purely from a medical point of view, and they can only give suggestions and make recommendations. Whether or not those recommendations are accepted is entirely up to the government.

Reacting to the report which blamed the government, Mr. Trump responded by quoting a tweet by the ex-Congressional candidate, DeAnna Lorraine, which read that Dr. Fauci told everyone back in February that, there is  nothing to be scared of and coronavirus posed no danger to the people of the US. She ended the tweet by asking for Dr. Fauci’s firing.

Adding to the tweet, President Trump said that he had banned China long before anyone else spoke up. In another tweet, he criticized news channels for spreading fake news.

Experts suggest that even though the Trump administration banned China, there was little benefit from the move. What could have been a great opportunity and time to prepare for the virus was wasted by the government.
