A family of four was found dead in Avon Lake, Ohio on Tuesday afternoon. The initial investigation has termed it into a suspected murder-suicide case.

The officers were called to the crime scene for a welfare check when they discovered the homicide. According to the press release “officers found the home in suspicious condition and requested detectives to respond to the scene.”

The police officials found the dead bodies of two adults and two children in the house. All were murdered through gunshots.

The bodies were found at 1:15 pm. It is still unclear the timing of the shooting or what as the motive behind the violent episode but the authorities have started investigating it as a murder-suicide case.

The Avon Lake police are jointly investigating the case along with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

The Avon Lake City School informed the families of the vicinity through a letter stating “it is with great sadness that I share the tragic news that this afternoon, we learned that we lost one of our erieview families, including two students. We have arranged grief counselors at an erieview tomorrow morning to work with staff and students.” The letter further stated “it is important that we recognize this loss and offer help. This is a sensitive issue for children, and we suggest that you talk with your children about their feelings. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of our students and families in the Avon Lake community.”

One of the residents of the neighborhood said that the Avon Lake community has never dealt with a tragedy of such grave magnitude.

 She stated “it’s shocking, shocking. It’s a great neighborhood, all families, a ton of kids, always kids out here playing every night I walk through here. I’m in disbelief, I can’t imagine what the family was going through, what could have happened, or what the family was dealing with.”

No information regarding the deceased family was released by the Avon Lake community or the police officials.
