Former professional basketball player Shawn Kemp was arrested in Washington on Wednesday on a felony drive-by shooting charge, reported by the Tacoma Police Department.

“We got this video from Brandyn Payne who says he heard multiple gunshots this afternoon in the Tacoma Mall parking lot. @TacomaPD arrested former SuperSonics star Shawn Kemp in connection with a drive by shooting. We’ll have a live update for you coming up at 11 on @KIRO7Seattle,” Kiro 7, Emmy winner reporter Bridget Chavez Tweeted.

Former NBA player 53 who played his finale for Orlando Magic, was arrested and booked before 6:00 pm into Pierce County jail almost four hours following the police officers responded to gunshots fired in the Tacoma Mall’s parking lot, revealed Tacoma police department in a post on Facebook.

“One of the drivers fired off several rounds at the occupants of the other vehicle. The victim vehicle fled the area,” says the statement.

Police forces later got the suspect shooter’s clue and “detained him without incident,” the statement continued. A gun was also retrieved from the scene.

After the arrest, the Tacoma police department confirmed on Twitter that  “an altercation between the occupants of 2 cars led to shots being fired at a parking lot in the 4500 blk of S. Steele St.”

One car fled. No injuries were reported. A gun was recovered. A 53-yr-old male was booked for Drive-By Shooting. The investigation is ongoing the post added.

Neither post mentioned the NBA player by name. The county police department did not respond to the request for comments. A representative for the department police refused to provide further information.

According to the updated records, no resident in the country has been found with the name Shawn Travis Kemp, 53, except for the NBA player. The former Seattle SuperSonics player was previously arrested on drug charges in the 2000s, including marijuana possession.
