Selena Gomez has provided a cryptic response to a TikTok video that suggested her weight is influenced by her former boyfriend Justin Bieber. The video, which was uploaded on November 29 and included a montage of past photographs of Selena, was accompanied by the caption, “The reason why Selena is always skinny when she dates Justin.”

On December 11, in response to the post, Selena commented with a face with a sad emoji. Many of her followers viewed her response to the TikTok video as a sign that she was upset that strangers were discussing her weight on the platform while some of her admirers thought she agreed with it.

“Maybe she’s upset you guys are constantly bringing up her body changing over the years,” One user said in the comments section, while another fan said, “Sad face because YOURE still discussing about her past like you know her.”

The whole discussion on TikTok was deemed improper and highly unreasonable by several users, including one supporter who said, “Her weight shouldn’t even be a subject of conversation.”

From 2010 through 2018, Selena and Justin had steamy romantic relationships. In her newest documentary, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, which had its world debut in November, she discussed their high-profile separation, calling it “the best thing that ever happened to me.”

Selena has discussed in the past how her health problems, such as lupus and the kidney transplant she had two years later, have influenced her weight and the judgment she has undergone from the general public. In 2015, Selena disclosed that she had been diagnosed with lupus.

“I have lupus and deal with kidney issues and high blood pressure, so I deal with a lot of health issues,” she said on an episode of Giving Back Generation. “And for me, that’s when I really started noticing the body image stuff.”

The star continued, “It’s a combination of all of it. It’s the medication that I have to take for the rest of my life. It depends on even the month, to be honest. So, for me, I really noticed when people started attacking me for that. And in reality, that’s just my truth. I fluctuate. It depends what’s happening in my life….And that got to me big time, you know? I think for me, that really messed me up for a bit.”

In the beginning of this year, Selena slammed down body shamers with a video on her own TikTok Stories. The video had the song “Rack City” by Tyga playing in the background while she mouthed the lines, “I’m a muthaf—-kin’ star.”

“So I be trying to stay skinny, but I went to Jack in the Box and I got four tacos, three egg rolls, onion rings and a spicy chicken sandwich,” she said in April. “But honestly, I don’t care about my weight because people bitch about it anyway: ‘You’re too small.’ ‘You’re too big.’ ‘That doesn’t fit.’ ‘Meh meh meh meh.'” The “Wolves” singer added, “Bitch, I am perfect the way I am. Moral of the story? Bye.”
