No, it ain’t another Riverdale episode – Ryan Grantham has been sentenced to life imprisonment after pleading guilty to shooting his mother to death.
Ryan Grantham who is famous for his role in ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ and the horror crime drama series Riverdale has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for killing his mother, Barbara Waite, in March 2020.
The 24-year-old kid who appeared in the teen drama as Jeffery Augustine was sentenced on Wednesday at Vancouver British Columbia Supreme Court. The Prosecutors said that the actor also plotted to murder PM Justin Trudeau and will be ineligible for parole for 14 years.
“Ryan Grantham, the B.C. actor who pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of his mother Barbara Waite, has been sentenced to life in prison with parole ineligibility of 14 years.” CBC British Columbia Tweeted.
Chair of the British Columbia Supreme Court’s Criminal Law Committee, Justice Kathleen Kerr, also mentioned Grantham’s sister, saying she had a ‘life-threatening’ impact on her life due to the tragedy. According to her, Grantham’s ‘saving grace was that he was aware enough of what he did and he didn’t go on a spree.’
Given Grantham’s mental health, Kathleen Kerr noted that the assailant had been involved in watching violent content on the dark web before he pulled the trigger in March and killed his mother.
According to CBC, Kerr further said Grantham has been given psychiatric treatment and appears to get better while in jail.
Chris Johnson, acting as a lawyer for the actor, stated on CTV that ‘Grantham is not shocked at the sentencing.’
“I think he anticipated what the judge gave him as a sentence,” said Johnson. “I think he’s pretty apprehensive about the whole thing. He’s a fairly tiny person, and to go to the prison system, I’m sure it’s a daunting and scary thought for him.”
While considering Grantham’s “diminutive” size, Ker said she would not suggest sending him to a high-security prison.
Grantham was only 21-year-old when he fatally shot his mother in the head while she was playing the piano.
Later in March 2021, the actor allegedly planned to murder Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as he loaded his vehicle with firearms, ammunitions, camping supplies, Molotov cocktails and a map to Rideau Cottage, where the Prime Minister lived with his family, CBC reported back then.
