According to Forbes, a group of hackers who is linked to Russia’s intelligence agency are engaged in a major plan for gaining the access to thousands of computer networks of private and government as warned by Microsoft on Sunday. The company also signaled that Moscow-based cyberattacks were also previously done on the U.S. computer networks despite the administration of Biden sanctioning them.

According to certain key facts of the news, Microsoft published a blog that the group who is behind the Solar Wind Attack is also targeting different cloud service providers in the US along with other IT organizations that can be located in European countries and America from May 2021. In addition, Microsoft highlighted and also notified the victims as they described this activity as “nation-state” activities and it is also working with them in order to expand their investigation based on the incidents.

The vice president of customer security of the Microsoft organization, Tom Burt, told the NY Times that the current campaign of the blog is quite large and will continue to grow. In addition, the government officials also confirmed that the operation was also aimed towards getting access to the data which is stored on the cloud and is seemingly have been backed by the hackers in Russia’s intelligence department.

“This recent activity is another indicator that Russia is trying to gain long-term, systematic access to a variety of points in the technology supply chain and establish a mechanism for surveilling – now or in the future – targets of interest to the Russian government,” Burt said in his post.

In April, Joe Biden ordered new sanctions against Russia and he also dismissed a number of Russian diplomats due to their hacking campaign that targeted both private and government agencies. The operation was known as the SolarWinds hack in which severe novel methods were used to gain access to the computer networks for agencies and other American companies.
