Russia calls out the news of bombing the Ukrainian maternity and children’s hospital in Mariupol, Ukraine as fake. The Russian representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky stated that the hospital structure was bombed by the Russian forces but it was not operating as a hospital anymore, in fact, it had been turned into a military house used by the Ukrainian armed forces.
The Russian diplomat tweeted, “That’s how #fakenews is born. We warned in our statement back in March that this hospital has been turned into a military object by radicals.”
The horrific attack immediately garnered international attention as well as criticism of Russia from around the world, as it is a rule of thumb to not attack civilian establishments including hospitals.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the aftermath of the attack as an “atrocity.” He shared a video while confirming the attack on the children and maternity hospital.
“Direct strike of Russian troops at the maternity hospital. People, children are under the wreckage. Atrocity! How much longer will the world be an accomplice ignoring terror? Close the sky right now! Stop the killings! You have power but you seem to be losing humanity,” he tweeted.
“An aerial bomb on a maternity hospital is the conclusive evidence that what is happening is a genocide of Ukrainians,” he added in a video address.
United States secretary of state Antony Blinken condemned the attack by Russia calling it, “unconscionable attacks harming population centers.”
Prime minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson also tweeted condemning the atrocious attack stating, “There are few things more depraved than targeting the vulnerable and defenseless. We will hold Putin to account for his terrible crimes.”
The videos and pictures emerging from the destroyed maternity hospital in Mariupol showcase Ukrainian emergency services coming forward and taking over the demolished hospital to help the pregnant women and injured children who were affected by the deadly shelling.
Russia continues to exploit the international rules while trying to conquer more cities with its atrocious advancements, the international community continues to callout and boycott, while the Ukrainian citizens and armed forces continue to struggle against the giant and ruthless Russian army.
