Rumer Willis has surprised her devoted fanbase with the announcement that she is expecting a child.
On December 20th, the actress and Derek Richard Thomas, her boyfriend, made the happy announcement that they are expecting their first baby together in the year 2023.
The happy couple announced their pregnancy on Instagram with a snapshot of Derek kissing his girlfriend’s developing tummy. The caption for the photo included a seedling emoji to represent their growing family. A number of the couple’s close friends, including Dave Annable, Jenna Johnson, and Nicola Peltz Beckham, were among those who were quick to send their congratulations.
“I’m so happy for you my friend. Such beautiful news. Congrats!!!” Aaron Paul wrote. Brittany Snow added, “Congrats beauty!!”
When it came to Rumer’s family, they, too, could not contain their joy and had to share it online. “Entering my hot kooky unhinged grandma era.”, Demi Moore captioned the snapshot of her daughter that she posted on Instagram and shared it with her followers. Scout LaRue Willis, sister of Rumer, chimed in as follows: “I feel so good. What a joyful hard launch party.”
It was just a month ago that Rumer Willis declared the status of her relationship with Derek on Instagram.
When Derek wished the actress a happy birthday in the summer of 2013, he discussed his connection with her in a somewhat more forthright manner.
“In the short time we’ve been together you have filled my life with joy and peace,” he wrote Aug. 16. “Everything is just so easy with you. We sing, we dance, we play and most of all we laugh. Thank you for being you. You’re a magical human. I’m so glad you came into my life.”
Despite the fact that the parents-to-be have not revealed the gender of their baby just yet, Rumer has said in the past what her father, Bruce Willis, would wish for if she ever decided to have children of her own.
During an appearance on The Talk in 2020, Rumer jokingly said “My dad puts pressure on me”. “Over the quarantine, he was like, ‘So I’d like for you to have a son because I need some male energy in this group.’ It’s a lot of women obviously.”
Rumer said at that time that she would not start a family until she believes it is the right time.“It’s important to wait,” she added. “I think it’s so important not to rush in and have it be about the lust or about, you know, that immediate connection, and building a real foundation.”
