PnB Rock, who was 30 years old at the time, and his girlfriend were inside a waffle house in the southern part of the city when a gunman allegedly demanded jewelry before opening the fire.
PnB was discovered by police suffering from several gunshot wounds, and 45 minutes later he was declared dead in the hospital.
Regarding the incident that occurred on Monday, there have been no arrests made as of yet.
A suspect approached a couple while they were inside Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles and demanded that they give up their personal belongings, according to Capt. Kelly Muniz of the Los Angeles Police Department.
She said to reporters at the scene that this led to “some sort of verbal exchange” between them before the victim was shot many times and collapsed to the ground.
She said that the suspect then “removed items from the victim” before racing to a getaway vehicle that was waiting nearby and departing the site of the crime.
PnB Rock, whose true name was Rakim Hasheem Allen, shot to prominence with the release of his single “Selfish” in 2016, and he has worked with a variety of musicians, including Ed Sheeran. Since his death, an outpouring of tributes has been paid to PnB Rock.
The megastar Drake shared a snapshot of the two of them together on his Instagram story, while the rapper Offset paid respect to PnB in a tweet by asking his fans to pray for the rapper’s two children.
Others have pointed out that the shooting comes after the murder of a fellow rapper named Pop Smoke, who was shot and died in a burglary in the Hollywood Hills in February of last year.
It has been hypothesized that his assailants were able to locate his residence because he unintentionally shared it in a social media post.
DJ Akademiks, who manages a renowned hip-hop station on YouTube, said that he had interviewed the rapper about an earlier attempt to rob him only a week before.
Nicki Minaj said that the passing of Pop Smoke has shown artists the need to exercise more caution about their locations.
