A pediatrician and a former general physician, Rachel Levine makes history as the first transgender to be appointed as Assistant Secretary of Health. A Harvard Graduate, Levine is president of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials. She has written remarkable journal articles on medical marijuana, eating disorders, the opioid crisis, LGBTQ medicine, and adolescent medicine.

Joe Biden’s decision to appoint Rachel Levine is supported by all of his cabinet members. Vice president-elect Kamala Harris called out on Levine after the official announcement. She stated that the kind of knowledge and experience Levine has to combat the pandemic, her services will be utilized – at best – to improve the health of Americans.

Currently, Levine is working as the Health Secretary in Pennsylvania and is a Pediatrics and Psychiatry Professor at Penn State College of Medicine. Levine was appointed as the State Health Secretary of Pennsylvania by Tom Wolf in 2018.

The humbled Levine who has been receiving congratulatory accolades from around the world,  issued a statement on late Tuesday, “I look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve Pennsylvanians, and all Americans, as part of the Biden Administration, if I am fortunate enough to be confirmed to this position.”

Levine’s efforts in Pennsylvania have been remarkable to combat the pandemic. She is the best option available for Biden to combat coronavirus. As he plans to launch a campaign – urging the public to wear masks – for the first 100 days of his regime, with the help of Rachel Levine; his team might be able to devise more effective plans.

“Dr Levine has the correct amount of energy and the much-needed stable leadership to meet the growing health needs of the country. She is highly qualified for the choice, and will help in leading the administration through this pandemic, and emerge as victorious”, said a statement, made by the Biden Administration’s representative.
