Phoenix police reported that five police officers received gunshots and were wounded while trying to transport a baby to a safe place from a home that had been under gunshots.

According to the Chief of Phoenix Police, Jeri Williams, five police officers were shot at home when they were trying to rescue a baby and transport him to a safe place at the crime scene.

The police officers had gone to a home in response to a report about gunfire at a home by a woman. The first officer who arrived at the scene was also critically injured.

The scene remains active as the Phoenix police are trying to undermine the circumstances of the shooting episode as well as the status of the alleged shooter.

Jeri Williams stated that four officers out of five wounded ones are recovering whereas the fifth one is critically injured and is “seriously hurt but is on the road to recovery.”

Williams stated that the police officers had gone inside the house to rescue the baby as he was inside the house. During the shoot out the baby was placed in a carrier and placed outside therefore it was necessary to rescue the baby.

A spokesperson for the Phoenix police department, Sgt. Ann Justus said that “the baby was ok”

The suspect fired several times at the first responding officer who arrived at the crime scene immediately after it was reported.

“This is just one more example of the dangers that officers face every day keeping us and our community safe,” Williams said. “If I seem upset, I am. This is senseless. It does not need to happen and it continues to happen over and over again.”

The crime scene is very much active as rounds of fresh gunshots are fired from the house after every five minutes.

The Phoenix police department has asked the public to stay away from the “critical incident”. “Scene is active. Stay away for your safety.”

Police claim that the situation involves a “barricade subject inside a house.” The story is still developing at the moment, we will keep you updated.
