World renown video sharing platform, OnlyFans, which is famous for creating sexually explicit and adult content in the form of videos and photos has announced that it will be prohibiting its creators from sharing explicit content from the beginning of October.
According to Bloomberg, the company stated that “it is making the changes because of the pressure from its banking and payment provider partners.” The BBC investigation reported that the company’s head has been continuously lenient towards the creators of the adult content posted on their platform.
OnlyFans released an official statement on their website stating
“to ensure the long-term sustainability of our platform and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines.”
The adult content creators will still be allowed to post naked photos as long as they comply with the website’s policy. “OnlyFans remains committed to the highest levels of safety and content moderation of any social platform.” However, the BBC investigation found out the opposite of what the site has declared regarding its moderation policy.
According to the investigation, the compliance manual instructed by the heads of OnlyFans instructed its employees to give three strikes to the users if the content was not in compliance with the sexual content policy or was termed illegal before completely removing it from the platform.
The successful accounts on the website donning a large fan base and large subscribers were treated more leniently as compared to the other users and were often pardoned if they broke the rules or the policy of the site.
OnlyFans claims to have almost 2 million creators on its platform and states that the creators have earned more than $5 billion using its platform and the other 130 million users.
OnlyFans is currently looking for investors who will be valued at about $1 billion but is facing difficulty to find such investors because of the ongoing proliferation of porn and sexual content on the site.
