It seems like Nicolas Cage takes the motto, ‘life goes on’ quite seriously. The 57-year old star ties the knot for the fifth time, with Riko Shibata, his 26-year old girlfriend, in Las Vegas. The wedding took place at the Wynn Hotel on February 16, 2021.
The matrimonial ceremony date Cage chose reflects how important it was. The wedding took place on the exact date when Nicolas’s late father was born. Shannon Barr, the actor’s representative, confirmed the news after a few days.
The couple is living proof of how age is just a number. They celebrated their wedding and love like any couple would do – oblivious to the age difference. When exploring the world together from Japan to Nevada, they did not let their age gap sway their love.
According to reports, their engagement was one of a kind as well. They didn’t follow any established societal norms and values.
When telling the world about his relationship for the first time in August in a radio show, Cage explained how he proposed Riko.
Amidst the lockdown, he was waiting for the pandemic to finish. However, after a couple of months he lost patience and spilled out his intentions on FaceTime, sitting in Nevada, saying, ‘Look, I want to marry you.’ Harboring the same feelings, Riko accepted Cage’s proposal. Hence the virtual engagement took place after not seeing each other for six months.
Cage wanted a Shinto wedding for himself after the pandemic would ebb, as he added in an interview in August 2020.
And what Cage wants, Cage gets. Riko adorning a handmade bridal kimono, walked down the aisle to a Tom Ford tuxedo-clad Cage in their traditional catholic Shinto wedding.
Cage seems to have found his soulmate after four hitches in his journey and appears to be in high spirits. On the other side, Riko Shibata seems excited too, as she readily changed her last name to Riko Cage.
Cage married four other women from the industry. He first wedded Patricia Arquette in 1995 which lasted till 2001.
In 2002, he was married to Lisa Marie Presley, a singer, for two years.
After the divorce from Lisa, he married Kim. And after years of partnership, they ended their relationship in 2016.
In 2019 he had his fourth marriage with Erika Koike, if it would be called one, as it lasted for about four days.
