While filming a scene, Neve Campbell was mauled by a bear.
At the time of the bear assault, Campbell was 17 years old. She shared her experience on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” on Thursday.
“I was playing this role where she’s ‘one with the animals,’ and there was a scene where I was getting chased by a bear,” Campbell told Kelly Clarkson. “They brought this bear on set, and they first gave me this big bottle of Coke to feed it.”
The team came up with a new plan for Neve Campbell and the bear after feeding the animal.
“They said dip your hand in honey and just run,” she recalled. “And when you get to the tree over there, turn your hand out and feed the bear.”
“I dipped my hand in honey and I run to this rock and I turn around and I put my hand out and the bear is not slowing down and he’s not coming for my hand. He grabs me by the leg and he pulls me through the forest. And my mother happens to be visiting set, and she’s screaming. The whole crew is frozen because nobody can believe what’s happening. All I can think to say is, ‘He’s biting me!’ like it wasn’t obvious.”
When a wrangler started throwing boulders at the bear, Campbell was saved.
It’s a good thing Campbell wasn’t gravely hurt. In fact, it seems that the assault strengthened her resolve, which would serve her well in a variety of roles to come. Additionally, Campbell has landed a role in The Lincoln Lawyer, which premieres this fall. The 2005 novel and the sequels that followed it, this Netflix legal drama series follows a LA defense attorney who operates out of a chauffeur-driven Car. Deputy District Attorney Maggie McPherson, who was married to Mickey Haller, is expected to join Manuel Garcia-Rulfo in the film as Maggie McPherson.
Clarkson remarked on the crazy things that happen to actresses after Campbell ended her narrative.
As Campbell put it, “It’s so silly, but we get asked to do silly things.”
Campbell’s filmography dates all the way back to 1992, when she landed her first major part in Catwalk, a Canadian series, after a string of small roles in numerous other productions.. Party of Five, on which she featured with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Matthew Fox as Julia Salinger for six seasons, helped her break through to a wider audience. The Craft, had a cult following of its own, garnered Campbell the part of Bonnie Harper. Over the years, Campbell has been in several films and television shows, including Skyscraper in 2018 and House of Cards on Netflix.
