Model and influencer Niece Waidhofer commits suicide, confirmed by her close friends and family.
Model Niece Waidhofer was discovered dead at her home in Houston last month by the Texas Law Enforcement during a welfare check. The cause of death is now confirmed by her family. Waidhofer was 31-year-old.
Niece Waidhofer was suffering from mental illnesses and had been quite open about her struggle with mental health to her followers and fans.
The law enforcement was asked by a concerned family member to make a check on her and that’s when she was discovered dead at her place.
Waidhofer was an established model but apart from that she was very popular on social media and had approximately 4 million followers on Instagram alone. She was an influencer. The news of her passing away and that too by suicide has shocked her fans and followers.
One of her fans wrote “She was one of my favorite people to follow on Instagram. Mental health is super important. More than you can possibly fathom.”
The family released an official statement stating, “Sadly, Niece took her own life after a long battle with mental health issues. She was very open with her followers about her struggles. Even wanting to help followers who also suffered.”
The family announced that they will be establishing a non-profit organization for her, naming it “Peace from Niece”. The organization is established to help people in dealing with mental illnesses and to raise awareness about mental health. It will also provide grants to relevant institutes for research on mental illnesses.
Waidhofer’s family also said “Niece was more than her struggles. She was beautiful and kind, sensitive and funny, creative and talented, generous and compassionate, thoughtful and challenging. While it is so very painful to say goodbye.”
Her family further continued, “We take comfort knowing she is reunited with her father, her three grandparents, her Uncle Rusty, and her beloved Puff; and that she is now free to be herself and, finally, at peace.”
The family stated that Niece was like a one-man-army, she wrote and captioned all her posts by herself and edited her photos by herself as well without any professional help. Fans were alerted by the recent development of Niece at her official Instagram handle where she deleted almost every photo of hers and left only three posts. This was weeks before she committed suicide.
