On Thursday, police said an 80-year-old man in Michigan was freed from detention after it was decided that he shot and killed an armed intruder in self-defense, according to reports.

A 31-year-old armed intruder broke into a Flint Township, Michigan, home shortly before 9 p.m., and the elderly man reacted quickly to protect himself and belongings.

After a confrontation at the residence, the 80-year-old shot and killed the 31-year-old.

The investigation into the event is ongoing.
