The awards are set to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on 15th May 2022.
This will be the 11th Billboard music award for Mary J. Blige. She had previously won the album of the year award along with nine awards for best female R&B/ hip-hop artist of the year as well as the female Hot 100 artist.
The Billboard Icon award was previously presented to Cher, Pink, Mariah Carey, Garth Brooks, and Janet Jackson.
Mary J. Blige released her 14th music album called “good morning gorgeous” recently along with a performance at the Super Bowl LVI Halftime show featuring Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and Eminem.
She was also featured in the Starz’s “Power Book II: Ghost” series
Over the years, Mary J. Blige has successfully expanded herself into producing, acting, and becoming a business mogul, but she always retreats her way to her first love – Music.
“My career has been such an incredible and unexpected journey that has included many turns into avenues I never could have imagined like acting, producing, launching businesses, and now even my own music festival,” Blige said.
“Through it all, I always one way or another gravitated back to my first love, music. To be recognized in this way at this moment, with the Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards, is an incredible honor and one that I am truly humbled by,” she further stated.
It is expected that Mary J. Blige will be performing on her huge hits over the years as well as onstage doing her worldly famous two-step stomp.

Mary J. Blige is very humbled by the honor that is being bestowed upon her and somewhere her music and her love for music are getting honored she feels. She is very excited but hopes that everything will be “just fine.”
