Including a young girl, five individuals are reported to have been shot while a Mardi Gras parade was taking place in New Orleans and a suspect related to the incident have been arrested, according to the New Orleans Police.

According to WWL-TV, three men and a woman are the other victims of the shooting incident, and all were brought to the hospital after the shooting for immediate medical attention. Chief Deputy Hans Ganthier has said that one of those victims is in critical condition. However, it wasn’t specified which victim he was talking about.

According to the police, one individual was detained at the crime scene.

“We were quickly able to apprehend the suspect we believe responsible for this,” Ganthier said.

Hans Gantheir has said that two guns have been recovered from the incident and that it is uncertain as of yet that any other person was involved in the shooting too.

“This is really not something we wanted to see,” Ganthier said. “We really wanted this to be a safe Mardi Gras.”

After the shooting incident, the superkrewe of Bacchus had been temporarily halted in the 1500 block of St. Charles Avenue. According to an officer, the parade would possibly resume to “get out of the way” of the crime scene.
