On Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Utah Jazz 135-133 in overtime to take the win. LeBron James was the leading scorer for the Lakers with 37 points, including the shot that won the game.
Anthony Davis led the Lakers in scoring with 21 points and was also responsible for 14 rebounds. Austin Reaves contributed an additional 28 points. Los Angeles was victorious for the seventh time in a row and eighth overall as they were led to victory by five players who scored in double digits.
Kelly Olynk led Utah to victory with a final stat line that included 23 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Talen Horton-Tucker contributed 23 points to the Jazz’s total and seven assists. Over the course of his past four contests, Horton-Tucker has scored 123 points. Ochai Agbaji added 22 points to the team total. The Jazz suffered their sixth defeat in their last eight contests.
With just 27 seconds remaining, James drove the lane for a game-winning basket that helped the Lakers pull out the victory. After Olynyk had given the Jazz a lead of 132-129 with a three-point shot, Los Angeles did not allow Utah to score for the last 1:38 of the game.
By shooting 71% from the field in the third quarter, Utah was able to overcome a double-digit deficit and win the game. Collin Sexton and Luka Samanic scored back-to-back baskets for the Jazz, giving them the lead for the first time in the second half and giving them a 99-97 advantage early in the fourth quarter.
After consecutive baskets scored by Dennis Schroder and James, Los Angeles retook the lead and went on to take a 124-114 lead with 1:43 remaining in the fourth quarter thanks to eight consecutive points scored by Reaves.
In response, Utah went on a 10-0 run to send the game into overtime. With 11.4 seconds left in regulation, Olynyk scored a basket and assisted two others, and Jones tied the score with a pair of free throws, bringing the total score to a tie.
