Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago has encouraged calm protests after Kyle Rittenhouse was discharged Friday of all counts in the killings of three protestors, two of them died in Kenosha, last year.
On Lake Michigan’s western side, Kenosha is about 66 miles from Chicago.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot said after the conviction that they must accept the jury’s judgment within our constitutional system.
She said that Rittenhouse’s actions in August 2020 were reckless, hazardous, and showed absolute contempt for human life.
The two guys Kyle Rittenhouse killed last year were hailed as heroes by protester Ezra Serran in Oakland, California, after the youngster was acquitted earlier Friday in Kenosha, Wisconsin. A similar placard has been spotted on the shoulders of other demonstrators.
There were reports of a disturbance in the Portland, Oregon, downtown area on Friday night when an anti-Kyle Rittenhouse demonstration near the Justice Center in Multnomah County became violent and damaging.
FOX 12 of Oregon stated that rioters were hurling items at cops, breaking windows, and destroying doors of public institutions, including the front gate of the judicial center.
The police said that it was a riot in downtown Portland because a large portion of the crowd is acting violently and obstructively. All participants are urged to go to the west, as directed by Portland’s police department.
A Louis Vuitton store in San Francisco’s Union Square retail neighborhood was emptied out on Friday night, according to a report.
Looting and damage were reported to the police around 8:10 p.m., according to the local station.
One arrest was made and five citations and 17 warnings were given Friday night after a demonstration that turned into a brawl following the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse.
At least some of the destructive mob has gone, and police are returning to their precincts, the Portland Police Bureau tweeted on Saturday morning. There has been at least one arrest thus far.
The glass of a city print shop was damaged, as was the neighboring window of a police car, and the downtown precinct of the Bureau was vandalized.
