Singer Kelly Rowland recently revealed that she reunited with her long-lost father after 30 years – all thanks to the music maestro Jay Z.
Singer Kelly Rowland had become estranged from her father Christopher Lovett about 30 years ago when he had decided to move out as he did not consider himself ready to accept parenthood.
Rowland was raised by her single mother Doris Rowland Garrison. Garrison died in 2018 at the age of 66.
The former Destiny’s Child singer eventually decided to reunite with her estranged father after her mother passed away in 2018.
Earlier she was unsure about her decision to open up the communication channel with her long-lost father; however, her longtime friend and lyrical genius Jay Z gave her the motivational advice to reach out to her father.
Jay Z is a longtime friend as well as the husband of her best friend Beyonce.
Kelly Rowland recalled saying “Jay Z said, love is all about risk. You gotta decide if you’re gonna jump. You gonna jump?” he again emphasized and asked, “are you gonna jump?”
Kelly needed the motivation to take the leap and took the bait to meet with her father after that moment.
She arranged a meet-up with her father Christopher Lovett in an Atlanta hotel where she listened to him for straight two hours.
The 41-year-old singer stated, “I had a wonderful mum who supported me and loved me, but the truth is, there was always a piece of me that was kinda missing. For 30 years, my dad was absent in my life.”
Rowland made a reference to the death of her mom saying, “At that time, I think I still had this feeling of “Oh my god, I have no parents” and it was like, “No, you do, you have one left”.”
Rowland said that when she met her dad Christopher who later on joined her for an exclusive interview, she had already given birth to her son Titan and that’s when she realized she was ready to forgive her father in order to have him back in her life.
“I learned that we are not perfect, and it broke my heart to know that there is going to be something about me that my kids are going to be disappointed about,” she said.
“Something, you don’t do it intentionally of course. You have to allow space. You’re not going to get it right every time and that’s OK.
‘I had to give my dad grace. As parents, we have to give our parents grace. It’s never too late. Forgiveness is always right there.”
Kelly Rowland gave full credit to the words of wisdom spilled upon her by Jay Z which gave her the confidence to reconnect with her father.
