In a recent interview with Esquire, ‘The Matrix’ star Keanu Reeves answered many questions fans are curious about, including one about his marital status. It’s about his marriage with Winona Ryder, which was apparently as real as weddings can get. It all started 3 years ago when the duo appeared for an interview on Entertainment Weekly for the promotion of their 2018 Rom/Com ‘Destination Wedding’.
While in the interview, Ryder said, “We actually got married in Dracula. No, I swear to god I think we’re married in real life,” since a real Romanian priest carried out the wedding, referring to Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 Dracula, where Reeves and Ryder play lovers, Jonathan Harker and Mina Murray. Reeves in the same interview responded, “Oh my gosh, we’re married.”, after asking her if they said yes while shooting the scene.
In a more recent interview with Esquire on November 22, Keanu Reeves confirmed the rumors since both Winona Ryder and Francis Ford Coppola believe it, they are married “in the eyes of God.” The John Wick star went on to answer many more questions about his life and career, including one about how playing ‘Neo’ in The Matrix changed his life.
“It changed my life, it was such a wonderful creative experience. And so to play Neo in The Matrix trilogy and now in the fourth(about The Matrix Resurrections), it impacted my life personally and creatively, thank you very much,” said Keanu Reeves, while talking about how the role almost went to Will Smith.
Another question was asked about rumors on Keanu Reeves joining the MCU to which he replied, “isn’t it bigger than a universe? It’s almost like a multiverse. It’s a Marvel-verse (laughs) it would be an honour, there’s some really amazing directors and visionaries and you know they’re doing something no one has ever really done, it’s special in that sense, in terms of the scale, the ambition, the production. So it would be cool to be a part of that.” Reeves refused to name one particular project as his favorite by mentioning he loved all of his work and had memories with them. He mentioned, however, how working with Al Pacino for ‘Devil’s Advocate’ was special for him. The legendary actor also appeared as himself in the 2019 Romantic Comedy, ‘Always Be My Maybe’, written and produced by comedian Ali Wong.
