31-year-old Katie Thurston announced the breakup on her Instagram stories stating” statement: “no we aren’t together”
In her response, the 28-year-old John Hersey stated “as Katie stated earlier, we are no longer dating. The decision was not made lightly and it was obviously not an easy one to make.”
“I love being able to share special moments with you all — the funny ones. The happy ones. The outrageous, embarrassing, and heartfelt ones. We could not (and would not) be here without you.”
Katie Thurston was the Bachelorette in season 17. Even though the winner of the season was Blake Moynes, the couple got engaged and split in October of the same year. The couple had been very open about their relationship on social media and kept on sharing intimate photos which were PDA-filled.
Just this January Thurston had posted that she is the “happiest version of herself” with John Hersey.
“Falling for you was the best decision I never had a say in, and I couldn’t be happier,” Hersey said. “I could have never dreamt up what this year had in store for me. I am both in awe of, and extremely grateful for the circumstances that brought us together. And thank goodness you dumped me on national television, or else we could have never gotten to where we are now.”
The couple celebrated their one-year anniversary this March with heartfelt posts on social media platforms.
“A year ago I’d never believe I would be right here in these moments with you 🖤,” she had written in a heartfelt post, captioning a shot of the pair sharing a loving look.” Sorry to all the bachelor brackets we f—ed up,” she teased in a comment on Thurston’s official Instagram handle with a winky test to confirm that they think their love story was exceptionally unexpected for their fans. “We owe you one
