Kamala Harris, the Vice President, experienced a minor automobile accident on Monday. The accident was initially attributed to a mechanical failure.
The Vice President was on her way to the White House when her SUV driver “had a minor overcorrection and struck a curb,” said Anthony Guglielmi, a secret service spokesman.
According to the Washington Post, the accident’s impact was to the extent that the tires of the SUV had to be replaced, bringing VP’s motorcade to a complete halt.
An overlooking high-rise video showed many armed guards who were standing around the automobiles that got stalled at an underpass entrance while Kamala Harris was being transferred.
“Oh my God — it’s Kamala! It’s her, there she is — I saw her,” a woman can be heard observing.
“She was in the car that crashed — that’s f—ing insane!”
Despite the fact that Harris’ SUV crashed, it was wrongly described as a “mechanical failure” by the Secret Service.
Anthony Guglielmi, however, called it a miscommunication.
“Initial radio traffic indicated this was a mechanical failure, and that was communicated to agency leadership by personnel supporting the motorcade movement,” he told the DC paper.
“After the protective movement was completed, leadership was verbally updated with additional pertinent facts that the vehicle struck a curb.”
According to the reports, the Vice President of the United States is reportedly perplexed about how such an accident could have occurred considering the extensive training provided to her drivers. Kirsten Allen, Harris’ spokeswoman, told the paper: “The vice president sustained no injuries and appreciates the quick response by her [Secret Service] detail to get her to the White House safely.”
