Joshua Bassett to release 3 new songs in the “most challenging year of my life.”
Joshua Bassett tries his best to avoid criticism before releasing his three new pieces, which he sneak peeked on his social media. He also announced on Twitter to donate $1 for every pre-download of his new songs.
The actor who played Ricky Bowen in the High School Musical series left a message to his fans last Thursday, a few hours before he was scheduled to release his three tracks; “Secret”, “Set Me Free” and “Crisis.”
In that message, while calling 2021 “the most challenging year of my life,” Joshua thanked his 2.8 million Instagram family for showering their kindness.
“Thank you for seeing me, and each other, as living, breathing, healing, and hurting human beings,”wrote the singer. “Due to the nature of pop culture, and the current public perspective, [there] will be a lot of loud voices in this next chapter — positive, negative and everywhere in between.”
The 20-year-old actor and singer then requested his fans to keep things courteous. “all i ask is you treat everyone with respect and love,” he said. “Anyone who sends hate on my ‘behalf’ is no fan of mine.”
The “Lie Lie Lie” singer teased the fans with a glimpse of all the three new songs on this TikTok account, which his fans suspect was addressing a breakup story – probably it is about Olivia Rodrigo, his HSMTMTS co-star.
“And honestly I didn’t want to write this / Don’t know if I can / Still holding back, still want to run,” read the lyrics of his song “Crisis”. “ And if you get to tell your truth then so do I / And it’s cool if you want me to play the bad guy / But don’t you dare act like I didn’t love you.”
The fans speculate the song’s lying might be hinting at Rodrigo’s 2021 hit, “driver’s license”.
While the “Set Me Free” song lyrics point at the star as if he tried to make amends for his wrongdoings.
“I know you feel used, I know you’ve been hurt / Anything I did to make you feel worse / I’d take it all back if I could,” he teased with his lyrics on Tik Tok. “And nothing I say will ease the pain / Why must I hurt for you to feel okay.”
The last of three songs, “Secret” seems to hint that not everything was as it seemed in their relationship.
