Gun laws have always been a hot topic in America, increasingly so when Bush gave immunity to manufacturers from any criminal use of their weapons. However, Joe Biden is determined to make necessary changes in the name of public safety, that very well could bankrupt the industry.
Biden has a different take on gun laws, and he believes that the manufacturers are to be held responsible as well. Their products are being misused and they should keep a record of their customers.
He is determined to make sure that the manufacturers are held responsible equally for any criminal activity that involves their guns. Biden wants to amend the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) that Bush introduced.
This law practically gives immunity to the manufacturers regarding how their weapons are used, especially if the weapons are sold legally. Biden considers those protections to be dangerous and wants to get rid of it as soon as he is sworn in.
Biden’s gun control proposal is about to set the firearms industry ablaze as many fear certain top gun brands will be at risk of bankruptcy. If Biden implements his plan, the weapon industry could collapse or be heavily crippled.
The procedure to make it difficult to own a gun will start by taxing gun ownership, in hopes of discouraging excessive purchasing.
This proposal, if introduced, will make the industry suffer as soon as it gets implemented. Also touched upon by the Biden team is that privately-owned guns are making it difficult for the country to keep a record of criminal activities.
The firearms industry is one of the largest industries in the US and it has grown exponentially over the years. If Biden plans to take on the industry, then the already struggling economy will likely be affected.
It does not seem like a realistic approach to the firearms industry and the manufacturers should not be targeted. The amendment in the PLCAA will put gun manufacturers in a difficult situation compared to the protections they have currently.
Biden’s reservations over the PLCAA are highly justified especially seeing the current circumstances. America has seen a surge in the demand for firearms as the COVID-19 situation worsens and as public tension continues to mount.
