Jim Carrey openly supported comedian Chris Rock and stated that Will Smith should have been escorted out of the hall by the security instead of getting a standing ovation on receiving the Oscar for best actor.

Jim Carrey called out Hollywood as “Spineless” in a recent interview where he said that Will Smith was definitely out of line as he assaulted Chris Rock on live television.
‘I was sickened by the standing ovation,’ he said. ‘Hollywood is just spineless en masse and it really felt like this is a really clear indication that we aren’t the cool club anymore.’
Jim Carrey further said that if he had been in place of Rock, he would have most definitely placed a lawsuit against Will Smith as he thinks that the video will remain forever and “it’s going to be ubiquitous”.
‘[The slap] came out of nowhere because Will has something going on inside him that’s frustrated. I wish him the best. I have nothing against Will Smith. He’s done great things, but that was not a good moment. It cast a shadow over everyone’s shining moment last night… It was a selfish moment,’ said Carrey.
The interview did not settle well with the online users as a video of the 1997 MTV movies awards resurfaced where Jim Carrey could be seen forcibly kissing young Alicia Silverstone after receiving the award for best comedian. In another clip, he could be seen trying to lock lips with Will Smith as he walks to accept his award.
The clips were seen making rounds on Twitter as well as other social media platforms, where the users termed Jim Carrey as a “hypocrite” for preaching what he doesn’t practice himself.
‘It’s amazing that Jim Carrey sexually assaulted Alicia Silverstone by physically forcing her to kiss him on national TV when she was [20], and it had literally no impact on his career whatsoever,’ one person wrote.
Another person stated ‘[Carrey] forcibly kissed Alicia Silverstone AND also tried to do the same thing to Will Smith. Regardless of age or age gaps, what Jim Carrey did was ASSAULT. He’s scum and he had no business forcing himself on people.’
