No participant had a chance on Saturday to compete in the 100-meter dash against the trio of sprinters from Jamaica.
Second consecutive Olympic gold medal was won by Elaine Thompson-Herah, from Jamaica, with an Olympic 10.61 second record time and a tenth-second time over Florence Griffith’s mark. Thompson teammates, herah’s silver and bronze won, and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (10:64) and SherickaJackson (10:76).
Apparently missing from the race was Sha ‘Carri Richardson, the 21-year-old American phenom who recorded 10:86 in the US Olympic Tests in June. However, Richardson tested marijuana positive after the race and annulled her record and excluded her from Tokyo.
Some of the top riders refused to deal with Richardson and her suspension during the qualifying heats on Friday but instead “no remark.”
In the event sans Richardson Teahna Daniels was the only American participant. At 11:02 she finished eighth.
