On Thursday evening, law enforcement in Evansville, Indiana responded to a report of shots fired at a Walmart, where they said that at least one person had been hurt. According to the authorities, a gunfight between police and the suspect resulted in the suspect’s death.

On Thursday night, the Evansville Police Department sent a tweet about the incident, warning people to stay away from the area and stating that there was an active shooter inside the Indiana Walmart.

“He would shoot at officers and move,” Sgt. Anna Gray said. “He was all throughout the store.”

Gray has validated that there was one female victim who was taken to the hospital. She also said that the cops arrived at the scene.

“We have been trained that if there’s an active threat, we go in – we don’t pause, we don’t take time to try to figure out what’s going on. We go in and we go where the shots are being fired,” Gray said.

After just a few minutes of the tweet, the EPD said that the suspect had been “neutralized.”

“Threat has been neutralized and is in custody,” police said.

They also said that law enforcement personnel were attending to an unknown number of victims at the time.

According to reports, many victims ran out of the shop just as the police arrived at the site. The EPD strongly recommended that any individuals who may have sustained injuries go to the hospital immediately.

According to the sources, the male suspect opened fire on cops several times before the officers returned fire and ultimately killed him.

Gray has made a request to potential witnesses, asking them to come forward with information that might help them in their investigation.

“A lot of people were fleeing,” she said Thursday night. “We do ask that any witnesses call in if they have information.”
