Former senator Mike Enzi from Wyoming died at the age of 77, after sustaining serious injuries in a road accident.
An official statement released by the family stated that Mike Enzi “passed away peacefully” as he was surrounded by his loved ones and family. The family also seeks privacy and prayers for the departed soul in these challenging times as they try to grip the pain. They also thanked everyone who reached out to the family and showed their concerns and support.
According to the reports, Mike Enzi was riding his bicycle in his hometown Gillette, Wyoming when he met with an accident and suffered injuries on Friday. He was taken to the UCHealth Medical Centre of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado for treatment through an air ambulance.
The family stated that he remained unconscious after the accident and succumbed to his injuries which included broken ribs and neck. The family plans to share a memorial in later time under the banner of “celebration of a life well-lived”.
According to the Gillette police, they received a report of an elderly man lying unconscious on the road near a bike on Friday around 8.30 pm. As they arrived at the scene nobody else was found and Enzi was unresponsive. There was no indication of any foul play or anybody else being involved in the accident.
Mike Enzi was first elected for the US Senate in 1996 after he served as the mayor of Gillette and an active member of the Wyoming legislature. Enzi was known and respected for his gentle mannerism and friendship as he chaired two committees; Health Education Labor Pensions and Budget for a long time.
Enzi was a staunch republican and he retired after serving for four terms as a senator in January 2021. He was a strong defender of his party and the oil and gas industry; which is his home state. Mike Enzi remained popular throughout his four terms as a senator and he won the re-elections three times attaining more than 70 percent of the votes.
Condolences poured in from all sectors of life especially from his colleagues both republicans and democrats as he was loved by all and he earned some great friendship and respect while serving as the senator at the House.
