Florida recorded the highest number of covid-19 cases in a day – 21,683; the highest tally for a day since the beginning of the pandemic.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Florida has seen an unpredictable hike in the new cases reported; a 50% increase on an average basis.
The news outlets stated 409 deaths in the past week, which brings the total number of deaths because of covid-19 in the state to 39,000 since the emergence of the pandemic back in March of 2020.
The medical advisers have expressed their concerns over Florida becoming the new epicenter of the spread of the virus, mainly because of the delta variant, if the spread is not curtailed.
Currently, Florida is making up a fifth of the total cases being reported in America daily; a vast majority of the cases belong to the delta strain which continues to haunt the lives of people across the globe.
Mask Mandate resisted
Amidst the increasing number of coronavirus positive cases, the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis still resists the embarkation of the mask mandate across Florida. Governor DeSantis had taken the authority from the local officials to enforce the covid-19 related restrictions on the public, stating that he would decide himself about the policies to curtail the surging covid-19.
Just last Friday, Governor DeSantis issued an executive order allowing the parents to have the freedom of choosing whether their kids will wear the mask in schools or not. According to the new executive order, the children are enforced to wear masks when inside a classroom but it is up to them if they will wear them in the cafeteria, gymnasium, etc.
On the contrary, the CDC had issued a recommendation for everyone to wear a mask or cover the face inside the premises of K-12 schools.
Due to the surging coronavirus cases, many theme parks like Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld in Florida have taken new measures and made the masks compulsory for their visitors, despite the vaccination status. They have also taken preventive measures of practicing social distancing both in their outdoors and indoors activity areas.
