Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top health expert, has asked Donald Trump to encourage his supporters to get themselves vaccinated for the coronavirus vaccine after a recent poll showed an alarming number of Trump supporters and Republican voters hesitant of getting vaccine shots.
A recent NPR/PBS NewsHour-Marist poll result showed that almost half of the Republican voters and approximately 47% of Trump supporters chose not to get vaccinated at all, even if the vaccines are available to them. On the contrary, only 10% of President Biden supporters were not ready to get vaccinated.
Fauci, the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases termed the survey results to be ‘very disturbing’. He claims that this is a large number of the population that is acting aloof towards their social and communal responsibility. These people must get themselves vaccinated so that the country can achieve herd immunity.
Fauci has been advocating the effectiveness and the need of vaccines since it was first made available to be administered in the US. He has been emphasizing the history of vaccines which have rescued societies from several infectious diseases such as polio, smallpox, and measles.
Trump did not participate in the recent public service by the Ad Council which featured all the other living ex-presidents encouraging Americans to get themselves and their loved ones vaccinated, which was quite puzzling. Though, he did urge the crowd to get themselves vaccinated while addressing the Conservative Political Action Conference, (CPAC) last month.
Former President Donald Trump along with their wife Melania Trump had received a vaccine shot in January while he was still at the office.
Fauci declared that it is very encouraging that there has been a drop in the number of new cases, as the vaccination process has gained momentum, but the vast population who is in denial of the adversity of the virus is very alarming.
Dr. Fauci claimed that a slight push by Trump will make all the difference in the world and he should do it to help humanity.
