The former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Robert Redfield claimed that he received death threats after he made remarks about an alleged lab leak theory regarding coronavirus in an interview dated back to March’21.
He exclaimed that after he voiced his belief that it may be possible that the virus was leaked from a laboratory in Wuhan, China; his inbox was flooded with death threats and that too from scientists. Redfield stated that it was shocking and agonizing to see that most of the death threats were from prominent scientists who had been his friends for years.
Initially, he had thought that once he spoke openly about his theory, the politicians would barge onto him but the scientists were more restless from his claim.
Redfield claimed that there is a possibility that the virus pathogens leaked from a laboratory in Wuhan by an involuntary mistake, months before it was finally brought into consideration by many countries.
Initially, his theory was mocked by various media giants and outlets in a digital write-up his lab leak theory was termed as “a controversial theory without evidence”
According to reports, in January 2020; Dr. Robert Redfield received a rather troubling message from the head of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention – Dr. George Fu Gao. Gao had warned him about the intense situation the world can face in days to come after explaining the sickening individuals’ conditions in Wuhan.
Reports state that Redfield had offered a team of specialists to be sent immediately to investigate but it was refused by China. Dr. Redfield says that he had suspicions that the Wuhan Institute of Virology may be involved in this virus leakage and if the investigative specialists had found any trace of the antibodies in the blood of any of the workers of the lab; this would’ve backed his theory.
Redfield says science will eventually prove how it happened. It is not unusual for any pathogens to be leaked from a laboratory when specialists and workers are working on them. It can infect any worker in the lab.
Redfield stated he was ostracized for a hypothesis that was different then what the world was thinking about. He had expected resistance and backlash from the politicians but it came from the opposite direction.
The lab leak theory gained momentum after it was reported that three researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology became so ill that they were put into the hospital for intensive care in November 2019, shortly before the coronavirus outbreak began in Wuhan, China.
Now, when most of the countries are demanding from China to reveal the truth of how the virus spread; there is not much evidence to back this hypothesis. After months of proposing the lab leak analysis as a fringe theory, finally, the Biden administration joined hands with other countries to pressure China to be more transparent in stating the facts about the outbreak that became a pandemic.
Richard Dearlove, UK’s MI6 intelligence agency’s former head stated that now it is too difficult to probe the actual cause of the pandemic. It has been so long since it first emerged, China had ample time in its hands to disappear or destroy the data which would’ve been lethal to prove the exact cause of the spread of the virus.
