And the 2021 Miss USA award goes to…..Miss Kentucky Elle Smith!
On Monday night’s beauty contest, Miss Kentucky Elle Smith swept the 2021 Miss USA award. The winner was honored with a crown and a sash during the pageant which was held at the River Spirit Casino Resort, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The University of Kentucky alumni will now be up for the Miss Universe Pageant coming on December 12 in Eilat, Israel.
The proud university congratulated its graduate on winning the contest. It wrote on Twitter, “Congratulations to 2020 #UKGrad Elle Smith — Miss USA 2021!.”
Elle Smith has majored in journalism and currently working as a journalist for WHAS11 News. Earlier she served for the school’s National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) as a vice president.
The (NABJ) wrote a congratulatory post on Twitter, “What a moment! #NABJCongrats to our very own @ellesmithtv of @WHAS11, who is the new @MissUSA !!!!!”
The international beauty contest will continue to move forward with its next chapter despite a candidate testing positive for Covid-19 – said Miss Universe organization in a recent statement.
On the other hand, Israel is taking strict measures in the wake of the deadly Omicron variant and banning tourist entries in the country for the coming two weeks.
“The Miss Universe Organization is working with Israeli officials to continue to get our contestants and staff into the country safely for the competition” – stated Miss Universe group.
During the question and answer round at the contest, Elle, 23, revealed, her “most important core value is honesty.”
The contest winner seems to be environmentally conscious as she spoke on encouraging business and environmental sustainability.
“We’ve got to look at it from a macro and also a micro level,” said Smith. “So at the macro level, companies need to switch to green energy — I think that’s something we can all agree on.”
“but then, at the micro-level, we all know how to reduce, reuse, and recycle, and those are all things we can implement in our daily life,“ she added.
Smith may seem pro at this but she actually participated in her first beauty contest just 6 months ago.
However, she was crowned for the first time in Monday night’s pageant, dressed as a jockey in regard to the Kentucky Derby. In 2020, Elle Smith graduated from the University with a degree in Journalism and later she joined WHAS as a full-time journalist. As per the contest winner, practicing journalism in the US is “an honor and a role I take very seriously.”
