Music producer and rapper Dr. Dre and ex-wife Nicole Young got divorced last year in March 2020, and the couple is finally settling the case along with their assets. The millionaire producer is going to keep the ownership of his master records, along with sales from his collaborative work with Beats and investment in Apple Stocks. Young on the other hand will get $50 million now and the remaining $50 million after a 12-month interval.
Along with the combined $100 million, Dr. Dre will also have to part with Young’s jewelry, Rolls-Royce, Range Rover, Escalade limousine, and the Spyder motorcycle as part of the settlement. The Malibu mansion, however, will still go to Dr. Dre.
According to a rough estimate, Dr. Dre’s net worth has been somewhat around $800 million, of which the divorce settlement money makes only a small part. The rapper has not contributed towards paying his ex-wife’s legal fee either, which amounts to millions of dollars.
The couple is reportedly already divorced, according to Dre’s lawyer Laura Wasser, the manner of which allows the couple to part ways immediately, leaving the money matters for later.
Among properties that the couple owned, Dre will get to keep 2 homes in Calabasas, and 4 properties in the L.A. and the Malibu house. He will be basically owning a total of 7 properties. There’s a lot of discussion on why his wife did not get half of everything, which would make sense since they owned many of the things collectively. Initially Young filed for $1 Billion, stating that the prenup she was made to sign was in 1996.
“I was extremely reluctant, resistant, and afraid to sign the agreement and felt backed into a corner. Given the extraordinary pressure and intimidation by Andre, I was left with no option but to hire a lawyer (of course, with the help of Andre’s team of professionals) and unwillingly signed the agreement very shortly before our marriage,” said Young in 2020.
According to TMZ, “She could have even been on the field for the Super Bowl halftime show as a friendly ex-wife,” reporting to a source close to the ex-couple that believed that Young could have settled for more money had she filed for it earlier. Dr. Dre and Nicole Young had been married 24 years.
