Democratic representatives along with the support of few Republicans, have voted in favor of President Trump’s impeachment trial in the wake of violent protest that led to the siege of the US Capitol Building last week.
The resolution was tabled by James Raskin from Maryland, a Democratic Representative. Mike Pence had rejected the idea to solicit the 25th Amendment for the removal of Trump in a letter to the House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi earlier in the day.
The House Democrats are now planning for a vote out on Wednesday in connection with the impeachment of Donald Trump, exactly after a week, the rioters disrupted the peace of Washington D.C.
Many Republican representatives have come out against the actions of Donald Trump, calling it the voice of conscience, and have started to back the impeachment of Trump.
A Republican House representative in the house Jaime Herrera Beutler announced on Twitter that she plans to vote to impeach Trump, as it is a call of her conscience. She claimed that Donald Trump had incited the riots, and took hours to do something meaningful to stop the attack. She exclaimed that Trump’s actions were pathetic, and she felt disgusted about it.
Many other Republicans have followed her suit; notably, Rep. Liz Cheney who is the third-ranked GOP leader in the house, Rep. John Katko, Rep. Adam Kinzinger, and Rep. Fred Upton have officially announced to go against the decision of Mike Pence, and vote for the impeachment of President Trump.
On the other hand, as the pressure grows, and Donald Trump’s situation gets worsen with each passing day, he is still adamant about resigning with a choice. The closest sources to the President have disclosed that he is not considering resigning, as resignation would mean admitting failure to perform duties – which in his opinion – was never the case. According to the sources, Senate doesn’t have that much time left to convict the sitting President, therefore, he believes he can firmly end his term at the White House without facing any kind of indignity.
