On 6th September 2021, the famous Omar Little from “ The Wire,” left friends, family, and fans alike in shock with his sudden death. Michael K. Williams was 54 years old at the time of death and his body was found at his Brooklyn apartment.
On Friday, almost three weeks later, the Chief of Medical Examiner from New York, confirmed the cause of Williams’s death, which was an accidental drug overdose. The autopsy reports confirmed that the Emmy nominated actor died from “acute intoxication by the combined effects of fentanyl, p-fluorofentanyl, heroin, and cocaine.”
The famous “Boardwalk Empire” actor was honored with a close ceremony at Stephen’s Episcopal Cathedral, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 16th September, where he was later laid to rest. Fans, peers, and co-stars have all shared heartfelt grief over his sudden sad demise.
The acclaimed actor, Michael K Williams, talked about the severity of tackling his life and characters together. In a 2012 interview to Star-Ledger, he also talked about his history of drug use as well as how he was struggling to come to terms with his life after the fame of the HBO series ‘The Wire’, where he played Omar Little.
Kerry Washington paid tribute to him before presenting the Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series, for which Williams was a nominee for his role in Lovecraft Country saying. “Michael was – it’s crazy to say was – a brilliantly talented actor and a generous human being. Michael, I know you’re here because you wouldn’t miss this. Your excellence, your artistry will endure. We love you.”
