In a sad affair of events, two deputies of Cobb County lost their lives while serving a warrant in the area near Marietta.

According to Craig Owens, the Cobb County Sheriff, the two deputies were killed while working in the line of deputies on Thursday evening.

Cobb County Sheriff confirmed that the two officials were serving a warrant and went to a house located southwest of Marietta but no one from the home answered.

 While they were getting back into their police cruiser, two guys pulled up in front of their car and shot at the deputies.

The FAST and SWAT teams were the first to respond to the crime scene immediately. They reached the intersection of John Ward Road SW and Habersham Road approximately at 9 pm, by then the suspected shooters had already barricaded themselves in the same home.

According to the reports, one of the county deputies was shot in the head and died on the spot whereas the other one was shot in the pelvic area. He breathed his last while being shifted to the Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.

The Sheriff’s office has not yet released the identities of the two slain deputies.

“We want to make complete notifications to their entire family,” Cobb County Sheriff Craig Owens said. “Our hearts are definitely broken. It’s not going to be an easy road. It is a very difficult time for us. And when one agency loses someone, we all lose someone. These two deputies served Cobb County with dignity and honor.”

Governor Brian Kemp also contacted the Sheriff’s office of Cobb County to ask if any kind of help is needed or not.

“We’ve also received help calls from all over the state of Georgia asking what others can do to help during this time,” said Owens.

The two individuals who killed the deputies were transported to the Cobb County jail immediately.

According to the reports, there have been “170 line of duty deaths in 2022 nationwide.” Officials say 46 of those deaths were “related to gunfire nationwide. In Georgia, there were six line of duty deaths prior to Thursday in 2022. None of them were gunfire related.”

A lot of the community people reached out to send their condolences and show their support in these trying times to grieving family members and friends.

We pray for their families as well as the men and women of the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office. #CobbSheriff #PauldingSheriff #GoneButNotForgotten” the Paulding COunty Sheriff’s Office released this statement.

“We join in mourning the tragic loss of two deputies killed in the line of duty.

Cobb County Police Department stated “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, the family and friends of the deputies, and all who loved them.

May they Rest In Peace. We have the watch from here.”
