Fans were outraged at game rules on Wheel of Fortune earlier this week when contestant Charlene Rubush was denied victory and her prize even after guessing the right answer. Audi however, announced that she will indeed be getting her rightful prize, subduing a lot of outrage.
For the “What are you doing?” category, Rubush chose to go with R, S, T, L, N and E as her own letter choices, initially guessing “Choosing the right card,” as the wrong answer. However, the Wheel of Fortune contestant immediately corrected herself within 10 seconds saying, “Choosing the right…word,” out loud for everyone to hear.
“Fans were already waiting for the celebrations but host Pat Sajak announced that Rubush was not going to win because she paused before saying ‘word’. “You know, this one’s tough because you said all the right words, including the word ‘word,’ but as you know it’s got to be more or less continuous,” he said.
Adding that, “We’ll allow for a little pause, but not four or five seconds. I’m sorry, you did a good job in getting it, but we can’t give you the prize and it was an Audi.” That seemed like it was all for the lucky Wheel of Fortune contestant so far, but fans were not happy with the decision whatsoever.
“Come on @WheelofFortune, the woman literally chose the right word. Give her the car.” wrote former Jeopardy! champ Alex Jacob, on Twitter, following it up with another tweet saying, “Now I’m wondering if she had just stretched out the word “riiiiiiiiiight,” would that have counted as a continuous answer? I understand rules are rules but this seems like a particularly dumb rule. C’mon Wheel, it’s Christmas.”
Audi immediately caught up on the blunder unlike many other brands that let things go far before they act by announcing, “You’re a winner in our eyes, Charlene. Now, let’s get you a prize. Time to #GiveHerTheQ3,” later quoting it and saying, “There’s no community like the Audi community. With your help, we tracked down Charlene! More to come as we help #GiveHerTheQ3.”
