A young basketball player hailing from Garden Grove, California was brutally injured after an opponent sucker-punched her. According to the reports, the attacking player was encouraged by her mother.
The mother of the injured basketball player, Alice Ham stated “I want the daughter and the mom held accountable. Because this type of behavior is reprehensible and cannot happen in youth sports.”
The video of the game held at the weekend showcased Lauryn Ham, and the opposing player briefly tangling after an unidentified player made attempts on the 3-point shot. Both fell down on the floor.
Just seconds later, both were seen hurling abuses on each other while walking out of the courtside but side. The player then unloaded roundhouse punches on 15 years old Lauryn which knocked her down completely.
Alice Ham filed a report with the police after the incident went viral.
Alice Ham stated, “I saw a normal basketball play basically turn into a nightmare.” Later Ham posted unseen footage on Instagram where the mother of the opposing player can be heard yelling “you gotta hit her for that.”
“It’s pretty clear that she tells her daughter you have to hit her for that,” Ham said. “What ‘that’ is, I don’t know. I don’t know what the mom thinks she saw.”
Ham was not present in the gym when the incident took place. She stated that she is praying that her daughter can make a comeback on the court very soon. This is something she loves the most.
The lawyer representing the Ham family, Brett Greenfield released a statement saying: “We are in no way trying to downplay and/or disrespect the seriousness of this situation. What is vital to remember is that these are two very young minors involved. The family recognizes the seriousness of this incident and will continue to take every necessary step to manage this in a positive way.”
The said incident which took place in California, caught widespread attention across the country after an amateur video was released on one of the internet platforms, making it go viral within a few hours.
