California – 3 people were pronounced dead and two were severely injured after a car collided with an Amtrak train near the Brentwood area here on Sunday.
The Fire Protection District of East Contra Costa County stated that the deadly collision was reported approximately at 1 pm. The car was carrying five passengers and collided with the Amtrak train in order to cross the railway tracks at a railroad crossing that was unprotected.
The department stated that three people were pronounced dead at the scene while two others were reported injured. One of the injured passengers was a minor. The child was taken to the hospital through an ambulance while the other person who was critical was flown to the same hospital through an air ambulance.
A representative of Amtrak also confirmed that its train no 713 met with an accident. The statement said, “ the train 713 made contact with a vehicle that was obstructing the track in Knightsen.”
None of the 89 passengers of the train and the crew members reported any kind of injury. The authorities started the investigation of the deadly incident immediately; this resulted in a delay of the train for about three hours.
The Amtrak representative stated that the company is working with the BNSF railway, the track owner, and the local law enforcement agency to determine the cause of the incident and help in the investigation. This is a developing story, more details will be provided later.
