The remains of Brian Laundrie, the 23 year old instagram famous traveller, were found earlier this week in a Florida reserve. Manhunt for him was going on since his fiancee, Gabby Petito’s remains were found in a forest, a few weeks before him. Petito’s death at the time was ruled as a homicide, and the cause of death to be strangulation.

According to the FBI, investigators confirmed the remains in the Florida reserve were Brian Laundrie’s through dental records. But there have been no findings regarding his cause of death yet. Since the remains found have been recorded as ‘skeletal’, officers believe that Brian Laundrie could have been dead the whole time that he was missing.

“Chris and Roberta Laundrie have been informed that the remains found yesterday in the reserve are indeed Brian’s. We have no further comment at this time and we ask that you respect the Laundrie’s privacy at this time.” Steven Bertolino, the Laundrie’s family attorney said.

Laundrie first became a person of interest in Petito’s homicide when he returned to his parents’ home without her last month, from a road trip they were taking together in Petito’s van. Petito’s parents had reported her missing on September 11. A couple weeks after returning home alone, Brain Laundrie left his parents house, and went missing.

Determining Laundrie’s cause of death is assumed to be challenging because of the nature of the remains found.

“It doesn’t necessarily mean that. But what it does mean is that it’s going to be much more difficult to make a good, solid determination as to the cause and manner of death.”  FBI profiler Jim Clemente reported to CNN.

He further added that it is possible to not get answers regarding how Brian Laundrie died because unless “there’s some kind of major, serious trauma to the skull that can be identified.. If he drowned, for example, there wouldn’t be any evidence of that on a skeleton.”
