American Music Awards 2021 were all about Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, and BTS as they took away 3 awards each by the end of the night.
The American Music Awards 2021 ceremony was opened by the charismatic duo Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak. The artists sang their collaborative song An Evening with Silk Sonic.
Taylor Swift also broke her own record of winning the most AMAs in history while clinching the favorite female pop artist award.
The other renowned winners of the night were Doja Cat, BTS, and Megan Thee Stallion.
The show was primarily hosted by the amazing Cardi B who opened the show with an upheaval enthusiasm stating “I ain’t gonna lie, I’m nervous, I’m shaking,” as this was her debut as a host of any awards ceremony.
The VIP guests were seated unmasked but with mandatory social distancing.
The theme of the show was “celebrating hometowns” and Cardi B gave homage to her own hometown as well – the Bronx, New York City.
Olivia Rodrigo, who was a debutant nominee this year and was nominated in 7 different categories, performed her hit song “traitor” from her bestselling album “SOUR”. She won the award of the new artist of the year.
The 18-year-old stated in her acceptance speech that “writing songs is my favorite thing in the whole world and I’m so grateful for everyone who embraced my music.”
The American Music Awards stage was graced by a lot of performers such as Coldplay and BTS, Carrie Underwood and Jason Aldean, Chloe Maneskin, Bad Bunny with Julieta Venegas, and Tainy, Tyler, Walker Hayes, and Kane Brown, and The Creator.
The upcoming romantic musical, “MARRY ME” by Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson also garnered much attention as Lopez sang and performed on a track “On my way” from the upcoming film. Jennifer Lopez has won American music awards three times already.
BTS, the Korean sensation, took home 3 awards. They were a favorite pop duo or group, evening’s top honor artist of the year, and the favorite pop song which they won for their worldwide hit track “Butter.”
The night was closed by an enthusiastic performance by BTS on Butter.
