Famous criminal attorney Mark Geragos said he would be shocked if the involuntary manslaughter charges were not filed against the on-set shooting case that killed cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins.

The attorney told Martha Maccallum from The Story, “I will tell you I would be shocked if there wasn’t an involuntary manslaughter charge brought in this case,”.

Halyna Hutchins, 42, died on 21 Oct, Thursday when the lead actor Alec Baldwin pulled the trigger of an alleged pop-gun which was handed over to him by an assistant director on the set of the upcoming movie “Rust”.  The shooting not just killed the cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins but injured the movie director Joel Souza as well.

While the incident is still under probe, Geragos said that the guilty held responsible will likely face extensive legal ramifications.

“Who do they bring it against is a real question because I don’t know that we’ve heard all the facts,” said Geragos.

“I don’t think anybody intentionally did this, from what has been reported. But clearly, somebody introduced live ammo on a set and was pointing it obviously at the director.”

What is an involuntary manslaughter charge?

Involuntary manslaughter refers to an unintentional killing due to recklessness. It is not the same as voluntary manslaughter in which the victim’s death is intended.

In legal terms, “If you did not intend to cause serious injury or death but are suspected of committing an act which resulted in the death of a person, you will be charged with involuntary manslaughter.”

Even though it is unintended, those who are found guilty are subjected to severe penalties.

The detective investigating the case and executing the search warrant found three people who could be held guilty as they were key people who passed the gun to Alec Baldwin after a security check.

Geragos said Alec Baldwin could come under the impact of the charges being the movie producer. “Alec Baldwin is presumably in charge because he’s the producer and has a great voice on the budget here, I guarantee you they’re also looking at whether or not people were shaving money or trying to cut costs and [whether] this is one of the results of that.” said Geragos.
