While on set for the shoot of his recent film, Alec Baldwin tragically misfired a prop gun that killed the director of photography Halyna Hutchins. Film director Joel Souza is also reportedly injured in the incident and is currently under treatment.

Alec Baldwin, 63, known for his roles in movies and TV, is reportedly ‘distraught’ over the incident. BBC reported that a local paper saw him in tears outside the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, where he went to speak to the detectives.

People have since been having discussions over the fatal and unfortunate incident and how a prop gun turned out to be so deadly. Usually, blanks are used instead of real fire ammunition in movies. Blanks are safe because they have paper and cotton instead of metal projectiles that shoot the bullet.

Sometimes, however, real guns are also used as a replacement for prop guns to make a scene appear more realistic. While most blanks being fired on set are safe, the terrible incident that led to Jon-Erik Hexum’s death, who died because of the force of the gunshot that fractured his skull, similar to Halyna Hutchins death, tells us they can be dangerous if not dealt with carefully.

There has been no confirmation regarding how Alec Baldwin’s firing killed Hutchins and injured Souza yet. Investigations are still underway, and no files have been charged so far.

Tributes have been pouring in for Halyna Hutchins, 42, who was director of photography for ‘Rust’, the film they were all shooting. “What’s so tragic is she’s made beautiful films already but when you think about what was ahead of her, that is also so sad,” said cinematographer Catherine Goldschmidt, adding that Hutchins was ‘lovely’ and ‘so talented’.

Elle Schneider wrote, “Sick and devastated to hear that my friend and rockstar cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed on set today in New Mexico. I don’t have words to describe this tragedy. I want answers. I want her family to somehow find peace among this horrific, horrific loss.”

“My greatest fear is that someone will be fatally hurt on one of my sets. I pray this will never happen. My heart goes out to all of those affected by the tragedy today on Rust, especially Halyna Hutchins & her family.” James Gunn, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Suicide Squad’ director wrote on Twitter.
