Adele has been making public appearances since announcing her latest album, 30, that is to come out on November 19, and her latest has been the show ‘Adele One Night Only’. She did a special for CBS with concert performances as well as an exclusive interview with Oprah.

The 33 year old singer discussed her divorce in the interview, along with parenthood and more about her weight loss journey. She talked about how she felt about marriage and how the divorce made her “embarrassed” as if she had failed. “I’ve been obsessed with a nuclear family my whole life because I never came from one. From a very young age [I] promised myself that, when I had kids, we’d stay together. And I tried for a really, really long time.” said Adele, whose dad left when she was only two.

She added saying the first time she realized something was wrong was when she took a magazine quiz and blurted to her friends about not being happy. “I take marriage very seriously.. and it seems like I don’t, now. Almost like I disrespected it by getting married and then divorced so quickly. I’m embarrassed because it was so quick.”

Adele and Simon Konecki were married for just a few months after being together for years before, as she stated herself that her marriage and separation both took place in 2018. They have a 9-year-old son together named Angelo, who was also in attendance at the concert last night.

“Music helps me in many situations, and I would like to do the same for people… to be reminded that they’re not alone.” said Adele about her songwriting and how it is extremely personal because she wants to connect with people. She answered many more personal questions and intimate details of her life, talking about how she reconciled with her father before his death.

“I had absolutely zero expectations of anybody because I learned not to have them through my dad. He was the reason I haven’t fully accessed what it is to be in a loving, loving relationship with somebody.” said Adele, adding, “He never ever played any of my other music. He was like, ‘It’s too painful.’”

The singer said she was able to play him, her new album over Zoom, just before his death, and that it was amazing for both of them, “…he was proud of me for doing it. So it was very, very healing [and] when he died, it was literally like the wound closed up.”

Regarding weight loss, Adele said how she started her fitness journey as a way to cope with her anxiety issues after her marriage fell apart. She talked about how many people felt about her weight loss saying, “I’m either too big or too small; I’m either hot or I’m not. But it’s not my job to validate how people feel about their bodies. I feel bad that it’s made anyone feel horrible about themselves – but that’s not my job. I’m trying to sort my own life out. I can’t add another worry.”
